I read a lot of mixed reviews for this game. Some ranging from about how poor the graphics are and how messed up the story is(in that it isn't put together very well). But I took the chance and threw down 50 bucks to get this game, I got the PC version. And here are my thoughts.
The graphics didn't bother me. With a game of this size if they wanted the graphics to be Gears of War level or even Crysis level, not even a god tower could play it. The game is just to large to have awesome graphics. But what graphics it had I thought were good. Nice explosions. Lots of blood. Neat ripple effects. Some reviewers said that the city scape is to bland. Trust me, you will hardly notice the buildings as you run around them trying to evade attack helicopters. Watching missiles whiz past you is awesome. It really is hard to describe. The graphics ran smoothly and never had a hiccup and there is a lot happening at once.
The way they did the story was brilliant. It's a interactive story that lets you delve as deep as you care to and learn more about the back story and the cause of current events. You can play it as a pure sandbox game were you do nothing but wreak havoc or you can learn more about the rich story, and believe me it is a good story.
Controls wonderfully. Lots of powers and upgrades and neat uses for them. There are many ways to deal with an enemy and situation. The disguise ability is great for hit and run tactics, which helps even out the game play style. The game 'can' be repetitive, but that's only if you are unimaginative with your powers. You can go full on frontal assualt which is fine, but there are things you can do to make a particular segment easier to do.
Voice acting is done very nicely, sure there are some less than excellent but as a whole this gets an A in my book.
Another small note is that Alex Mercer, the protagonist, is the anti-hero I've always wanted to play.
If these game seems like it's right up your alley, I do suggest buying. It is a great investment.
